Academic CV & Theatre Resume available upon request

Growing up all over Canada as part of a military family, Jenny is now a Toronto-based theatre artist and educator, with strong ties to Ottawa, St. John’s, Vancouver, Halifax, and London, England.  Jenny holds a PhD in Theatre from the University of Toronto and an MA in from RADA and King’s College, London. She is a proud graduate of the joint acting program at Sheridan College and the University of Toronto, Mississauga.

Jenny's SSHRC funded PhD thesis "Community Engaged Theatre Audiences" examined how audiences made meaning out of new Canadian plays. Her teaching and research focus is community-engaged theatre, documentary and applied theatre, with an emphasis on play creation and audiences. Her professional work involves directing and dramaturgy, project-based arts management, play development, producing and community engagement. She was the co-artistic director of Common Boots Theatre, with Jennifer Brewin and Alex Bulmer, from 2018-202. She is co-founder and director of The Centre for Spectatorship and Audience Research.

From Jenny: “I seek out creative spaces of unlikely encounters, in the studio, the classroom, the theatre, or a found environment. I find that strangeness and recognition are wrapped up together: we understand each other best in the small details of daily life. My practice is built upon the idea of diverse people gathered together, generating something new by being in each other’s presence.  Public space that reveals us individually and as a society - that is the focus of my work”.
